My Baume Mercier 8600 Diamant Review

In case you don’t know, the logo of this near 200 year old company is:

“Accept only perfection, only manufacture watches of the highest quality”

Now, with a logo like that, and with a history like that of Baume&Mercier, you’ll find very few of their watches are disappointing. They’ve had years to perfect their designs, and most of the Baume Mercier watches in production today are remakes of older models that were extremely successful.

And I have to say, Baume et Mercier really hit it out of the park with the Diamant 8600.

Let’s just start with the aesthetics, I won’t even touch on the inner workings.

First off, the case is two tone 18 karat gold and polished/brushed stainless steel. The clasp is a tri-fold security clasp…I have to say that it seems to be a bit tricky when you first figure it out, however, the clasp allows the watch to sit comfortably on your wrist without worry of it slipping off, so it’s worth the effort I think.

The case, as well as the rest of the watch, is extremely well built. You won’t find any blemishes in the polish or scratches on the window. It feels solid when you wear it as well, however, it’s still slim and sleek so as to fit to the female figure.

One complaint that I often hear from women regarding these flashy two tone luxury watches is that they can be overbearing to some women. I suppose I can understand not wanting to wear a big golden bracelet around all the time, but honestly the Diamant 8600 watch isn’t so overbearing as that. It IS flashy, much more so than many of Baume and Mercier’s other women’s watches, that’s true. However, the design is so sleek, and honestly, quite feminine, so it doesn’t stand out as much as you might think from the picture.

Plus, just wait til you lay eyes on it…You’ll want to wear it around, trust me.

The dial is made from mother of pearl and is accented with golden Arabic numerals at the 12, 3 and 9 positions. The 6 o’clock position is occupied by a small date window that blends into the dial enough that it’s not distracting, but not so much that it’s difficult to read.

The diamond set crown feels extremely high quality…Very distinct adjustments, not flimsy at all.

The movement is a Swiss made quartz movement…I can’t really tell you much more than that, as right now I’m not especially well versed in Quartz movements. I’m learning though! If I think of it I’ll update this review when I learn more about it.

I can tell you this though, the Baume Mercier 8600 Diamant is a very precise watch. You shouldn’t have any problems on that front.

In case you don’t know the difference between quartz and automatic…A quartz watch will generally be a little to a lot more accurate than an equally priced automatic watch. However, they lack the artistic feel of an automatic and they also require battery changes. Although honestly, the battery changes will probably be less a hassle than worrying about winding with automatics. Depends on the movement and the person. It’s your choice whether or not you want an automatic movement, and if you don’t care then you’d probably be happier with a quartz watch, such as the Diamant 8600 watch.

My Verdict of the Baume & Mercier 8600 Diamant

So what have we covered here?

It seems that the Baume et Mercier 8600 Diamant is:

  • Both accurate and attractive.
  • Both durable and elegant.
  • Both feminine and bold.

What more do you want?

The only other complaint that might be relevant to some women is the low water resistance. This watch is only water resistant to 30 meters.

Well that about does it…Thanks for reading through my entire Baume Mercier 8600 Diamant review. I hope that I’ve helped you to decide whether or not to buy this women’s luxury watch.
