Bulova Women’s 96R19 Diamond Chronograph Watch Review

Bulova 96R19 Diamond CollectionI usually don’t review women’s watches here on WhatWatches.com because they’re less popular (generally), and I’m a male, but the Bulova 96R19 Diamond Chronograph watch is one of the few that I feel warrants a full review. I’ve been really into Bulova lately, and this is the first women’s watch to really catch my eye, and as you continue reading I’m going to tell you why.

And ladies, don’t worry… Just because I’m a guy I can still tell you all the reasons that you’re going to love this watch! 😉 Trust me, I’ve seen enough watches – both men’s and women’s – that I can separate the wheat from the chaff.

I’ll start by giving you a brief overview of the pros and cons, and below that you will find an in-depth Bulova 96R19 review where I’ll go over the core elements of the watch in more detail.

Bulova Women’s 96R19 Diamond Chronograph Watch

Pros:

  • The perfect size for a timeless trend… Not too big for the petite woman, not too small to be out-of-style, but juuuuust right.
  • Milky white mother-of-pearl background somehow adds an immense “depth” to the watch. Really enhances the silver accents that comprise the rest of the dial, and something you have to see in person to truly appreciate
  • 16 small diamonds hand-set in the bezel to ensure maximum sparkle-bility. Perfectly crafted to catch the light without appearing cheap…None of that cubic zirconia nonsense – REAL diamonds!
  • Sleek design and subtle-but-eye-catching color scheme is perfect for both dressy or casual occasions
  • Robust construction and quartz powered movement mean that you can wear this watch as much or as little as you want. Many customers report daily use for 5+ years without noticing any decrease in functionality.
  • The alternating polished/brushed stainless steel links that make up the strap are comfortable, eye-catching, and secure
  • Deployment clasp is a very convenient for easily taking the watch on and off
  • Bulova is a time-tested brand with a history of making innovative, stylish timepieces for both men and women.
  • Water resistant to 30 m, so you don’t have to worry about rain or sweat ruining anything
  • The chronograph is perfectly functional, but small enough in size that the extra tiles don’t take over the face of the watch
  • The embezzeled hands are easy to read with a large date window

Cons:

  • Mineral crystal is inferior to sapphire crystal, but you’re not going to get that in a watch under $1000. At least the mineral crystal is flat instead of curved, so it doesn’t look remotely “cheap”.
  • Japanese made quartz movement will be give the true Swiss-made connoisseurs a fit, but the look and function of the watch can’t be debated.
  • If you have very petite wrists and you don’t particularly care to jump on the large-watch-trend, you may find a smaller watch more comfortable.

My Bulova Women’s 96R19 Diamond Collection Review

As you can see, and as I’m sure you had an idea of before reading this review, the women’s Bulova 96R19 has quite a lot going for it. The pros are many and the cons are few. I can tell you right now that if you’ve made it this far, you’re going to be happy with your purchase. But for those of you who need a little more convincing, here is my more in-depth Bulova 96R19 review:

White Mother-Of-Pearl Dial with Chronograph

Obviously, the design of the dial is the main appeal of the watch. Okay, well maybe the diamonds are more appealing, but regardless… The dial needs some talking up, because the pictures you’ll find online simply don’t do it any justice.

First off, you really can’t get an idea of how DEEP the white mother-of-pearl dial feels until you’ve seen it in person. It adds just the right amount of opacity to an otherwise very reflective women’s watch. Don’t get me wrong, I love sparkles and the women who wear them, but there is such a thing as TOO sparkly, and the pearlescent dial is just the thing to tone things down without taking away from the beauty of the diamonds.

The rest of the dial features polished stainless steel accents that add just the right amount of complexity to the design without becoming overbearing or cluttered. The hour markers are small, but not so small that you can’t read them. The chronograph sub dials are also small enough that there is plenty of white space between each one, and unlike many lesser chronographs they don’t feel “busy” at all.

I initially thought that the white hour and minute hands would blend into the pearlized white background and thus be unreadable, but this isn’t the case at all.

When you see it in person, there is a distinct bezel to the hands which make them stand out clearly from the dial.

The calendar function is located at the four o’clock position and is large enough to be readable without intruding on the chronograph.

Bulova 96R19 Diamond Collection ProfilePolished Stainless Steel Case with 16 Handset Diamonds

Okay, now HERE we have the main appeal of the watch. The polished stainless steel case features 16 diamonds manually set into the stationary bezel that encircles the watch. Even though the diamonds are small, they are spaced and angled in such a way that no matter what angle you’re looking at the watch, you’re going to catch a few sparkles. Furthermore, between each diamond is a polished stainless steel “spacer” (not really sure what to call them), which are there to draw even more attention to the diamonds by reflecting light into their crystalline depths.

As far as size is concerned, this women’s watch is large enough to be trendy, but not so large that it’s overbearing or too heavy to wear comfortably. The case is 30 mm in diameter, which is just over 1 inch for those of you who aren’t familiar with the metric system, and less than 9 mm thick. The crown sits snugly against the side of the case to prevent snagging, along with the two pushers for the chronograph function.

Polished and Brushed Stainless Steel Strap with Seamless Double Deployment Clasp

Bulova 96R19 Diamond Collection Case BackLastly we come into the heart of the watch that may seem like the least important, but is the most significant when it comes to comfort – the stainless steel strap. Fortunately, you don’t have anything to worry about… The quality of the strap is in line with what you expect after hearing about the rest of the watch.

The strap is made up of 16 stainless steel links, the last three of which on each side are removable to adjust to the perfect fit for your wrist. The outer links are polished while the interlinks are brushed, although the contrast is not so severe that it takes away from the dial or diamond set case in any way.

My favorite part of the strap, however, is the seamless double deployment clasp. If you will direct your attention to the accompanying image, you will be able to get an idea of how this class works, and why I like it so much. When fastened to your wrist he clasp is entirely concealed on the inside of the strap. To release the clasp, there are two pushpins on either side of the watch, so it is very easy to take on and off while still giving you a snug and secure fit. Of course, it’s recommended that you get the strap fitted at a jeweler, since nobody likes a dangly watch flapping around everywhere!

My Verdict of the Bulova 96R19 Diamond Collection

Maybe I’m being shallow here, but the Bulova 96R19 Diamond watch is simply gorgeous! With 16 perfectly handset diamonds, this women’s watch is sparkly, but not cheap-looking, and a suitable size that will always be in style. Functionally speaking, there is nothing to complain about… The watch is accurate, readable and durable. If you like the looks, you won’t be disappointed!

Thanks for reading! This watch makes a great gift for your special lady, or for yourself. Either way, someone will be happy, and I’m happy you read my review.
