My In-Depth Invicta 4342 Russian Diver Review

The Invicta Russian Diver series is a tribute to the watch originally manufactured for the Russian naval fleet in 1959. As such, the design of the Russian Diver watch is uncomplicated; beautiful simplicity is the best way to describe this time piece.

Personally, I like the Russian Diver collection quite a lot, but if it were me I probably wouldn’t ever buy one of these. I think that the watch makes a great addition to any collection, and it is a great everyday piece that you don’t have to worry about taking care of. It’s easy to see, it’s functional and fairly accurate (Swiss-Source Quartz Watch Movement), but it lacks the more advanced features of some other watches.

What I DO like about the Invicta 4342 Russian Diver watch:

For instance, it’s one of the biggest watches that Invicta makes, with a case diameter of 4342 Russian Diver Case Back52mm this thing is almost 2.5 inches across. That in addition to the attached crown cover distinguish this watch from most others, so that even though you’re only paying $100 for it, this watch will stand out every time you wear it. Invicta’s made this men’s watch (although the Russian Diver collection does feature female models) very easy to read…The dial is very simple with a black background and luminescent green numbers…There’s an extra large date window at the 12 o’clock position, right beneath the Russian Diver logo.

I also like the protective cap over the screw down crown, and I love that it’s attached to the watch. That alone just adds so much elegance to this Invicta watch. I also like the black rubber strap, and the fact that it has the stainless steel barrel insets on both sides.

What I DO NOT like about the Invicta 4342:

The strap is too short for bigger wrists and a replacement will cost you at least $50. All of a sudden, just because your wrist is bigger than 8 or 8.5 inches the price of this watch just went up $50 – $100 for you, depending on whether your replacement strap will be stainless steel or leather. The problem for me is that I actually really like the strap that’s already on the 4342, and so the fact that I’d have to replace it is really frustrating…I wish Invicta had done a better job here.

The other thing that causes some people confusion is that this watch used to be officially “Swiss Made”. That means that every part of the watch, every part of its manufacture, all took place in Switzerland under strict quality enforcement laws. Recently, however, Invicta has made the switch to “Swiss Movement” (not to be confused with the thing that powers the watch, the Swiss source quartz-movement). Basically, just don’t be surprised to see that Movement instead of Made inscribed on your watch. Some folks over at Amazon were complaining that the pictures show Swiss Made (the official ones don’t, just customer pictures), so I thought it was important that I address that for you here. Honestly, for this watch it doesn’t even matter whether it’s swiss made or swiss movement, it’s still only going to perform like a cheap $100 watch.

Just don’t expect a Rolex and you’ll be fine.

My Verdict of the Invicta 4342 Russian Diver

All in all I have to give props to Invicta. The Invicta 4342 Russian Diver watch is simple, beautiful, different and unique (something difficult to pull off in the watch world sometimes), and it works.

I don’t really have any beef with this watch…It’s an affordable watch with a bold, masculine design, but it’s light on features. However, because of that it’s actually pretty durable and accurate, and VERY attractive, so the watch is worth buying for most people. If you’re interested and you’re not worried about the strap length then there’s not really any reason not to buy the watch.

Thanks for getting through this entire review, I know it was a tad on the long side…I figure better to have too much information than not enough, right? Anyways, I really hope that I’ve helped you in your decision to buy or not to buy the Invicta 4342 Russian Diver.
