My Invicta 9937 Pro Diver Review
After looking around Amazon for a watch to review, I decided that the time had come for me to investigate Invicta’s Men’s Pro Diver collection, and 9937 seemed like the watch to beat. I’d like to start this review off by reading you a quote that can be found at the entrance to Invicta’s worldwide headquarters. It reads:
“We have long held firm to the belief that supremely crafted timepieces can be offered for extremely modest sums…”
That, my friends, is exactly what Invicta has done with the 9937. I’d like to start off this Invicta watch review by grading this watch on a few key points:
Looks – The whole Men’s Pro Diver collection is based off of Rolex’s Submariner series of watches, and no matter what model number you get, you’ll find that these Invicta watches do a fabulous job of honoring their originals. Now, whether or not they stand up to the quality of a Rolex is a different matter, but as far as looks go Invicta has got it down…This watch is a beauty. The coin edge bezel is amazing…however, if you’d prefer the scalloped style bezel, then the regular Invicta 9937 Pro Diver (pictured to your right) is what you’ll want.
Quality – The 9937 is perhaps the most high quality watch in the Pro Diver line. It features a much higher quality Swiss movement than you’ll find in cheaper models, such as the 8926 and the 8932. This means that it’s able to be more accurate, AND have the sweeping second hand, which is a feature that distinguishes a true luxury watch from a cheap watch.
Price – If you go to Amazon right now you’ll find this watch for less than $300. Let me tell you right now…That is ridiculously cheap. To be perfectly honest with you, if this watch cost $600, I would still have said you were getting a good deal on this watch. This Invicta Pro Diver watch’s retail price is about $1,300 so you can figure out what a good deal you’re getting for $300.
Alright, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I’d like to go into a little more depth with this Invicta watch review. Please keep reading to read more about some particular features of this watch.
Swiss Made Automatic Movement
If all that mattered about a watch was the way that it looks then everybody would just buy flashy looking $50 watches. Well not really, but you get my point. What distinguishes super high end watches is their in-house made automatic movements COMBINED with classic and contemporary designs. And indeed, if all you wanted to do was to own a watch that LOOKS like a Rolex, then you could get the Invicta 8926 for about $100 and save yourself the money. However, what makes a watch isn’t its appearance, it’s the craftsmanship.
All these things ideally come together to form a watch that’s both pleasant to look at and highly functional. One thing that sets this watch away from cheaper watches is the quality of the Swiss movement. Obviously, being an automatic watch the 9937 functions totally without a battery, it is instead powered rhythmically with the movement of your arm.
The movement inside the Invicta 9937 is a Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic movement. It has 25 jewels and beats at 28,800 vibrations per minute, the same as the Rolex Submariner. What the “25 Jewel” is referring to is the number of jewel bearings inside the movement. Basically, these bearings are laser crafted to reduce the maximum amount of friction possible; the less friction in the movement, the more accurate the watch. The Invicta 8926 has a 21 jewel movement, which is certainly respectable, however the 9937 is much more accurate.
The Sellita SW200 is an identical copy of the ETA 2824-2, which is a proven automatic. On Amazon customers have reported getting the watch accurate to +/- 3 seconds a day, which, for a mechanical movement is extremely accurate.
Sweeping Second Hand
The 28,800 vph means that the sweeping second is that much smoother. The 8926, for example, beats at ~21,000 vph, so the sweeping second hand isn’t nearly as smooth.
Along the same lines, one thing that sets apart a high quality watch from a lower quality watch is the way that the second hand moves. For example, in the cheaper Invicta 8926 the second hand moves approximately 6 times per second. This is slow enough that the second hand appears to be jumpy, not smooth. In the Invicta 9937 you’ll find that the second hand moves in a sweeping motion…This is because the second hand moves at a rate of 8 or so increments per second. Doesn’t seem like much, but it makes a difference. On a side note, this is a good way to tell a real Rolex from a fake…In a real Rolex the second hand smoothly sweeps across the face, in a fake it ticks.
The reason for the difference in automatic movement quality is that the Invicta 9937ob features a Swiss Sellita SW200 swiss movement, where as cheaper Swiss automatic watches come with a Japanese Miyota movement. Think of it like this…If you were buying medicine, then name brand medicine would be the movements that they use in high end luxury watches, the Sellita movements would be the generic brand, and the Japanese Miyota would be toxic.
No, not really, but to a real watch connoisseur it DOES make a difference. Once set properly, the Invicta men’s 9937 swiss watch will only be off by 5 or less seconds every day. As far as automatic watches go, that’s pretty sweet.
Scratch Resistant Sapphire
Another feature of Rolex level watches is that you see different materials used…Mostly in the protective face of the watch. This particular watch is made with high end, scratch resistant sapphire crystal, while the 8926 and other cheaper watches use mineral crystal, which is much less durable. The sapphire is extremely durable, and should protect your watch for a long time to come. As an example, one reviewer made the claim that they hadn’t a single scratch on their watch and that they’d owned it for 9 months! That’s a long time to keep a watch ship shape.
Tangentially speaking, another really cool feature of this stainless steel watch is that it features what’s called an ‘exhibition back’. What that means is that you can see into the back of this watch…You can look through the back of the case and see the Swiss movement and the other inner workings of the timepiece. Looking into this watch is enchanting, so if you’re ever bored you can just turn to your wrist for entertainment!
Water Resistant w/ Screw Down Crown
Of course, the watch is water resistant as well…All the way to 200 meters, so not bad at all. In fact, to aid in water resistance the Invicta Pro Diver watch features a screw down crown. What this means is that to further protect the case and prevent seepage into the watch. What this means is that YOU get to rest easier when you’re swimming, because you’ll know that this extra layer of protection is keeping water out of your watch, however, it is worth noting that you should be very careful to fully tighten the crown, in the event that you ever remove it. Invicta makes it very clear that if you don’t screw down the crown all the way, that they WILL NOT consider any warranties. Not a big deal, but just be careful about that.
Looks like a Rolex…Really.
Last but not least, I feel as if I should make some mention of the beauty of this watch. In case you didn’t pick up on it, The Invicta Pro Diver watch is a tribute to Rolex’s Submariner watch, which is a very well respected watch (as you might guess from the Rolex name), and the 9937 comes about as close as you can to mimicking the beauty of Rolex’s watches. The simple design with the stainless steel case and the polished links make this watch both beautiful and hefty. Weighing in at about 12 ounces, you’ll find that you quickly get used to the feel of having this watch on your arm.
My Verdict of the Invicta 9937 Pro Diver – Perfect 10/10
All in all the Invicta 9937 Pro Diver is a great watch.
No, not a great watch…
A Perfect Watch.
Invicta really out did themselves with the Invicta 9937. They always say the Rolex Submariner makes a great $800 watch (it costs closer to $4,000, but that’s only cause it’s a Rolex, not because of it’s funcionality) and Invicta has made it for $250.
They say that imitation is the greatest form of respect, and Invicta’s done a great job of paying its respect to the Submariner with the 9937 Pro Diver watch. For all the reasons I discussed in this review, from the high quality movement to the exhibition back built into the steel case, and because you can find it on Amazon for about $250 (which is a steal!), I highly recommend this watch and give it my full stamp of approval! Thanks for reading this Invicta watch review.
